The quality of the Carignano grape is exceptional in the Sulcis area of southern Sardinia: exceptional colour and exceptional softness of soluble compounds, from the tannins to the consistently low and elegant acidity and the smoothness of its main components. Its palate feel is of a distinguishably sweet, extremely delicate, round tannin presence providing a satiny mouthfeel. To the eye, it is a lively, deep ruby red. The bouquet provides complex aromas of ripe red fruit (mainly black cherry), spice, licorice, and myrtle. It is an elegant wine that shows exceptional craftsmanship.
The blend is 85% Carignano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Merlot grown in Agricola Punica’s Narcao and Barrua vineyards, spurred cordon vines cultivated in the calcareous, clay-rich and sandy soils of Basso Sulcis.
“Fully saturated deep ruby. Leafy nuances and notes of sassafras dominate the deep but youthfully reticent dark red fruit on the nose. Then smooth and dense, with forward flavours of red cherry, dark plum, cassis, and aromatic herbs. Finishes very long and spicy, with peppery tannins and building complexity.”

“Lovely precision to this red with berries, nutmeg and hints of stones. Subtle dried meat, too. Medium body, pretty texture and a refined finish. Always excellent. Drink now.”

“Sleek and mouthwatering, this harmonious red features creamy tannins and layers of flavour, with black currant pâte de fruit, dried marjoram and smoky mineral notes accented by abundant ground white pepper, star anise and graphite details that play out on the finish. Carignano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2025.”
