Brigaldara’s Amarone della Valpolicella Case Vecie is the ultimate example of how terroir and human ingenuity can come together to create something that is unique to this region. Production begins in the vineyard, where Guyot-trained vines are carefully managed to produce flawless bunches of fruit. The grapes are then hand-harvested during the second half of October to ensure that only the best, undamaged fruit is used. Then the magic begins: The selected grapes spaced on open perforated racks, where they are left to dry for several months. This technique, known as appassimento, adds a layer of complexity to the wine by concentrating sugars and flavours before the fruit is pressed and fermented. The wine is then stored in Slavonian oak barrels and left to age for two years before it is bottled.
The main indigenous grapes to the Veneto feature in the blend: 55% Corvina, 25% Corvinone, and 20% Rondinella. This is a smooth and silky Amarone, with flavours of preserved fruit, baking spice, Moreno cherries, dried fruit, and hints of tobacco and cocoa dancing on the palate. The complexity and roundness persist through a long and attractive finish. This is a wine that will make you fall in love with Amarone all over again.
“Bright and elegant, this lightly fleshy, medium- to full-bodied red offers flavors of candied cherry and dried strawberry fruit, with accents of woodsy spice, dried thyme and black licorice. Delivers a long, supple finish. Drink now through 2027. 1,100 cases made.”
