In 2013, the fruit ripened easily with a moderate crop and typical warm, dry conditions. The vintage was aged 15 months in oak: 45% new, 80% French medium-plus toast, 20% American medium toast.
The wine features aromatic tiers of ripe mulberry, spiced black tea and purple floral notes. Additional dark fruit, black plum, spice and a hint of cocoa on the nose. It is full in the palate with good concentration, dark fruit flavours and considerable structure in the finish. It pairs beautifully with burgers, steak, short ribs, grilled lamb, pizza, pasta bolognese, Stilton cheese and chocolate.
“A very classic nose of black and red currant, toasted cedar … Other tones such as milk chocolate, jarred cherries, and allspice emerge on the smooth finish.”
