Cannonball’s Sauvignon Blanc is a pure expression of the grape’s vibrant fruit flavours: the wine is simply what the grape provides. There is no messing around, no doctoring with oak, no softening from malolactic fermentation. The juice is simply fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve the natural fruit flavours and acidity.
The 2016 vintage was an unusually mild year. Grapes were sourced from Tzabaco Rancho Vineyards in Dry Creek Valley and the Bennett Valley Vineyard, just east of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County. The fruit ripened early, but high acidity levels required additional hang time to evolve. That patience was rewarded by a beautifully balanced California Sauvignon Blanc with great complexity and finesse.
This Sauvignon Blanc is distinctly Californian, fruit-forward and aromatic yet somewhat less assertive than the well-known New Zealand style. The wine shows aromas of melon, honeysuckle, jasmine, and white pepper on the nose, with delicate flavours of stone fruit, green apple, and pear. Vibrant and fresh, this vintage stands out for its unusually great texture – the finish lingers on a mineral note.
“Fleshy and lightly ripe, this wine embraces fresh flavors of nectarine, quince and melon, with slight teases of lemongrass and honeysuckle. Bright, persistent acidity supports just the right amount of body and breadth.”
