Delamotte is one of the oldest wineries in Champagne. Established in 1760 in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, it is the “little sister” property to the legendary Champagne Salon. They share viticultural, enological, and managerial teams as well as terroir. Vineyard location is the key that guides Delamotte’s house style: elegant, focused, expressive. All vineyards are sourced from Grand Cru sites.
2007 was not the most straightforward vintage. Like all vintages, it was marked by key events. A surprisingly mild winter and an exceptionally warm April made for an early and promising start to the growing season. Mother Nature, however, unleashed a cold, rainy August that did not settle until the month’s end when a resplendent sun broke through the clouds, temperatures rose, and the grapes were fast-tracked to ripeness. These tenuous conditions created a palpable tension through harvest: growers watched, waited, and assessed, daring the grapes to ripen, determined to pinpoint the perfect moment to pick. This resulted in a very early harvest that started on August 30th for Chardonnay. Yet again, Delamotte’s treasured Grands Crus delivered impeccable fruit – healthy bunches with a fine balance of acidity and potential alcohol. This is the stuff that Delamotte is made of, and the heart and soul of the 2007 vintage. Nature, hard graft, and the expertise that comes with time resulted in the pleasure of a truly excellent wine.
The 2007 Blanc de Blancs is an excellent opportunity to try a particularly stunning Champagne, already ten years old, from a particularly good vintage. It is a fresh, layered, aromatically open wine ready to drink over another decade or so.
“Disgorged in May 2015, Delamotte’s white-golden colored 2007 Blanc de Blancs (dosage Brut) opens with a pure, fresh, intense and smoky/chalky bouquet with white fruit aromas, orange/lemon, brioche, nut and toffee flavors. Pure, fresh and elegant on the palate, this is a concentrated, complex and juicy yet finessed and tensioned Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. It is tight but creamy and harmonious and reveals concentrated lemon juice flavors in the long, mineral finish.”

“Delamotte’s 2007 Blanc de Blancs is deep, fleshy and seductive, with lovely textural depth and nuance throughout. The 2007 is a relatively soft, open-knit Delamotte that will drink well upon release. I especially admire the wine’s sense of balance and overall proportion, two of the many qualities that give the 2007 its considerable appeal.”

“Champagne disgorged 2016. Suppressed nose, but the palate has a marvellous sourdough character with baked apple and orange peel fruit. Chewy texture. Exquisite – so lifted and floaty. Weightless, yet layer upon layer of feathered flavour. Drink 2016-2026.”
