A unique expression of Chenin Blanc from one of the Loire Valley’s most esteemed producers, this traditional method sparkling Vouvray is crisp and minerally with a lovely bouquet of flowers, ripe pear, and sweet spices. Any discussion of Chenin Blanc in the Loire, or frankly, world-wide, would be incomplete without mention of Domaine Huet. The Domaine’s wines, arguably the most elegant, age-worthy expressions Chenins, are produced in a number of styles.
The time, care, and technique used at Domaine Huet is present at all stages of the winemaking process. The grapes are hand-picked, sorted, and gently pressed. Production follows the traditional method: after an initial fermentation, the wine is bottled with a small quantity of yeast and stored away from light in underground cellars carved in the area’s famous white chalk, known as tuffeau. The wines rest on their lees for at least three years, developing a distinctly refined character that is the hallmark of Domaine Huet’s sparkling wines.
Pure and polished with great acidity and a delicate mousse, this sparkling wine would undoubtedly put a good number of Champagnes to shame. Sourced from the Domaine’s three landmark estate vineyards, the vines here have been farmed biodynamically for the last 25 years. This is a terrific bottle to keep on hand for any occasion.
