A unique expression is Chenin Blanc from one of the Loire Valley’s most esteemed producers, this Vouvray Petillant is crisp and minerally with a lovely bouquet of flowers, ripe pear, and sweet spices. Any discussion of Chenin Blanc in the Loire, or frankly, world-wide, would be incomplete without mention of Domaine Huet. The Domaine’s wines, arguably the most elegant, age-worthy expressions Chenins, are produced in a number of styles. Pure and polished with great acidity and delicate bubbles, this wine would undoubtedly put a good number of Champagnes to shame. Sourced from three landmark estate vineyards, the vines here have been farmed biodynamically for the last 30 years. This is a terrific bottle to keep on hand for any occasion.
“The golden-yellow colored 2012 Vouvray Pétillant Brut shows a ripe and elegant fruit with nice chalky and lemony flavors on the nose. Medium-bodied and fresh, this is a creamy textured and very elegant sparkling wine with a very delicate mousse and a dry, persistent mineral finish with a stimulating grip.”
Stephen Reinhardt, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Oct 2016
