Duckhorn Vineyards has been crafting Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc since 1982. Expanding on this winemaking tradition, Decoy Sauvignon Blanc lets the winemaking team explore a different expression of the grape from another great California appellation: Sonoma County.
In Sonoma County, a warm, dry spring resulted in any early budbreak, while an extended flowering period brought a return to normal yields after three years of abundant crops. With berry weights down, the grapes offered great concentration, while retaining excellent acidity. Duckhorn experienced of their earliest harvests in the past decade, but a light rain in mid-September nourished the vines and provided welcome additional hangtime.
The wine fermented in stainless steel to draw out bright, vivid tropical and stone fruit notes: nectarine, apricot, honeydew melon, lemongrass, and grapefruit on the nose and palate. Refreshing acidity mingles with a subtle, creamy sweetness that stays lively through the finish.
“Stainless-steel fermented, this lively white shows lush and plush flavors of melon, pear and peach, making it likably fruit-forward. Amidst the deft ripeness lies more complex accents of wild vanilla and fennel that please and intrigue.”
