Like all of the best Sonoma County Zinfandel, Duckhorn’s 2016 offering combines lush dark fruit and plush tannins with vibrant red fruit acidity. Balanced and bright, but certainly not clumsy or heavy, this is a wine as delicious as it is refined.
The 2016 growing season in Sonoma began with generous winter rains, followed by a spring and summer marked by moderate temperatures and abundant sunshine. This was a year for grapes of exquisite quality, with the reds being lush and complex with beautiful colour and concentration. The majority of the fruit came from vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley, an area universally recognized for producing exceptional high-end Zinfandel. The final blend brings together 93% Zinfandel with 7% Petite Sirah aged for ten months in French oak.
