LCBO Vintages Release
Named after a lesser-known indigenous bird nearing extinction due to predation by a species introduced during colonization, Mohua is a winery that pays homage to New Zealand’s natural beauty. A true family operation, the winery is now run by a second generation of Kiwi winemakers. Sourcing grapes from Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, this Sauvignon Blanc expresses the purity of the area’s fruit in the glass. The winery selects vineyards that practice lower yields and integrate organic and biodynamic practices.
This 2015 Sauvignon Blanc is a great expression of Marlborough terroir that we don’t often get to experience. The typical tropical passionfruit notes give way to an intensely aromatic citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and lime profile. There’s a touch of elderflower that reminds us that this is one of New Zealand’s cool pockets. The palate has a distinct core of citrus and green mango with a little gooseberry; seriously crunchy and crisp, with a slightly chalky texture and a persistent tropical fruit finish.
“All the pieces fall into place, with lime, mango and green apple flavors that are bright and juicy, revealing a touch of pineapple on the vivid, bright finish. Drink now. “
