“Paul Hobbs has emerged as one of the great success stories in Northern California. […] I had an extensive tasting with Hobbs at his winery in late January, and the results were all impressive. […] As for the Bordeaux varietals, there’s no question that 2013 is the game-changer, as I indicated in previous reports, but 2014 is delicious and another top-notch success.”

Robert Parker on Paul Hobbs Winery, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, March 2016

This stately Cabernet Sauvignon displays great depth and complexity from diverse terroirs, including fruit from the Nathan Coombs Estate and other pedigreed Napa Valley vineyards. Dark crimson in colour, the nose is perfumed with luxuriant aromas of red currant, boysenberry, cedar box, and Herbes de Provence. The intensely layered palate excites with flavours of cassis, graphite, blueberries, and sage, woven seamlessly together with savoury, velvety tannins. The finish is long and pure, a perfect harmony of richness and elegance.

“Aromas of tar, blackberries, cloves and dark chocolate. Perfumed. Full and focused with a beautiful centre palate and length. Mostly from Nathan Combs in Coombsville with some Yountville-sourced fruit. Best ever. Drink or hold.”

“The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon comes across as quite similar to the 2013, but with a bit more brightness and aromatics. Linear and precise, the 2014 is a wine built on fabulous persistence and exceptional balance at this level. This is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Paul Hobbs adds that the 2014 has a bit more estate fruit than in prior years, which is likely to continue as more fruit from the Nathan Coombs estate vineyard comes online. 2018-2029”

“Deep garnet-purple coloured, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon leaps from the glass with fresh, exuberant cassis and crushed blackberry notes plus hints of cigar box, dried Mediterranean herbs, violets and Marmite toast. Full-bodied and built like a brick house, with firm, grainy tannins and lively acid supporting the generous black berry and savoury flavours, it finishes with great length and poise. It is drinking beautifully now but has the stuffing to cellar for 12+ years. 6,810 cases were made.”
