Champagne Blends
Type: Sparkling Wine
Vintage: Non-Vintage

In 2010, Ridgeview caught global attention when they received the trophy for “Worldwide Best Sparkling Wine” at the Decanter World Wine Awards, the first and only time this has been awarded to a producer outside Champagne. It was the official wine served for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Since then, Ridgeview’s sparkling wines have been the “go-to” sparkling wines served for heads of state visiting Great Britain. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, prime minister David Cameron, Sir Richard Branson, Sir John Major, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, Hillary Clinton, London Mayor Boris Johnson, Tom Hanks, and Kevin Spacey enjoyed Ridgeview wines paired with sole in coldwater crawfish sauce and Windsor palace-raised lamb with parsley, but don’t wait for a dinner party like this to come around: try the Bloomsbury Brut for life’s smaller celebrations, too.

The Bloomsbury is Chardonnay-dominant, supported by the fullness of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It shows a light golden colour with a fine, persistent mousse. Citrus fruit aromas with hints of melon and honey hit the nose. Chardonnay dominance brings finesse, along with crisp freshness. The Pinots add depth and character leading to a beautifully balanced finish. This will age gracefully for three to four years as the Chardonnay matures.

“This wine brims with fruit and freshness. A host of apple notions comes alive on nose and palate: The appetizing, ripe tartness of Cox Orange Pippin, the mouthwatering crispness of Granny Smith and the mellowness of Golden Delicous. It has a refreshing, open honesty, juicy and totally inviting. Underneath all that allure lies rich autolysis, underlined by a fine, creamy mousse. Flavors and freshness linger.”

“Chardonnay dominates this blend with pinot noir and meunier, providing a richer wine than Ridgeview’s Cavendish, big and leesy, with fleshiness to its fruit. The autolysis lends a toasty pastry-crust note while the savory chardonnay spice brings to mind fennel seeds and meaty stock.”

“60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir, 10% Pinot Meunier. Salty saline nose reminiscent of oyster shells. Very good balance of sweetness and acidity. Long in the mouth, pleasing to the palate.”

90 points, Decanter World Wine Awards, 2018

“Pale lemon colour with appealing stone and citrus aromas. Passionfruit character and a crisp, clean and fruity texture, with brioche hints.”
