This unique blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon is an elevated expression of what’s come to be known as a classic Margaret River style. Wonderful purity of fruit couples with lovely texture and complexity.

2016 was an excellent vintage in western Australia, with Voyager’s estate vineyards enjoying a near perfect growing season. This is a maritime climate, and through the growing season, warm, dry, relatively light winds prevailed along the Margaret River coast. Small teams harvested the white fruit blocks slowly, picking small parcels of fruit each day. The resulting wines all display bright, intense varietal fruit flavours with excellent natural acidity.

The fruit for Voyager Estate’s Sauvignon Blanc – Semillon was sourced from 11 separate Estate vineyard blocks, all planted on gravelly loam soils with different aspects and microclimates offering slightly different flavour profiles. The vines are pruned and thinned by hand, and yield is kept low to ensure consistency and quality.

Fruit was de-stemmed and pressed to tank immediately upon arrival at the winery. After settling and racking, small batches of juice went through slow, cool fermentation of about 15 to 27 days. A portion of Semillon was fermented in tight-grained new French oak; it matured in barrel for two months, with regular lees stirring. The parcels were blended following fermentation and maturation.

The resulting wine is a refreshing blend, with Sauvignon Blanc offering crunchy lifted tropical fruit aromas and flavours and Semillon contributing strong citrus elements. The small portion of barrel-fermented Semillon has added weight and structure to the palate. The long, crisp, dry finish serves as an ideal aperitif on its own or as an accompaniment to seafood, goat’s milk cheese, or green salads.

“Estate-grown, night-harvested, matured for 2 months in oak … Right in the mainstream of Margaret River style, and of high quality. The fragrant bouquet has lemon myrtle and herb aromas, the long palate with perfect acidity to freshen the finish and aftertaste.”
