Avignonesi winery, located in Montepulciano, southern Tuscany, is named after its founding family. They are dedicated to expressing the true character of the Montepulciano terroir; this dedication has earned the winery a well-deserved place among the flagship producers of Tuscany.
In 2009, Avignonesi was acquired by Virginie Saverys, who chose to introduce organic farming techniques to the land in order to craft more distinct and genuine wines with strong character. She respects the heritage of Montepulciano, where Sangiovese-based wines have been produced for centuries. Her motto: “Terroir speaks, we listen.”
Avignonesi is made up of 200 hectares of estates situated 1000 feet above sea level, the majority of which are in the Montepulciano DOCG. The main estate of Le Capezzine includes a traditional vinsantaia (a Vin Santo production facility), cellars and the renowned Vigna Tonda, an experimental vineyard.
“Avignonesi is one of Tuscany’s most respected producers, with wines that consistently win kudos worldwide. Responsible for its success is fully 30 years of activity at its facility in Valiano, spent both in research, exemplified in its “vigna tonda” (round vineyard) experiment and in tenacious pursuit of its local traditions.” Gambero Rosso, 2010
