Bevan Cellars began as a true “garage” winery in 2004. With one ton of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon made available from Showket Vineyard and with the help of a small group of friends willing to harvest and sort fruit, Russell Bevan and Victoria DeCrescenzo, amateur winemakers with no formal training, created their first Napa Cabernet. Once Kal Showket tasted the wine he quickly hired Bevan as their new winemaker.
This is not to imply that making great wine is easy. It isn’t. But some people have the palate, the intuition, the natural gifts to produce something that exceeds expectation, exceeds their competition…….in Napa Valley we call them “Cult Cabernets”. Wines that drive enthusiasts to hunt down and hoard. Wines made in tiny volumes, from spectacular terroir, that sing and soar in the glass. Bevan Cellars’ wines are certainly that…and more!
In 2005, with more fruit purchased from Showket and some from Drystack vineyard, Bevan Cellars had its first two vineyard designates – and the first wines ever released under the eponymous label. In 2011, Bevan was catapulted into the limelight as he crafted the only 100 “Parker-point” Napa wine of this difficult vintage.
Bevan explores vineyards that have something special and more often than not, his quest for these Cabernet vineyards would bring him to Oakville. Many of Napa Valley’s most famed Cult Cabernet vineyards are here, including Tierra Roja,Ulysses (formerly Charles Hopper Ranch), Vine Hill Ranch and Tench Vineyard.
Extreme grape sorting and a luxurious barrel program allow Bevan to control with great precision the phenolics and tannins, creating absolutely huge wines that are fresh, rich and hyper-complex.
These wines are not for the faint of heart! L.O.L. They are highly detailed, marvellously textured and wildly perfumed. These two-thousand sixes are among some of the most exciting Napa Cabernets that I have tasted in recent memory.

“The 2016 Tench Vineyard EE Red Wine checks in as a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot, which is the smallest amount of Cabernet Franc to date. “The 2016 Tench Vineyard ‘EE’ is an absolute beast of a wine, and the most powerful and intense of all Bevan’s 2016’s. It offers bold aromatics of ripe blueberries, black cherries and crème de cassis along with roasted coffee, graphite, sage and sweet spices all soaring from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied with incredible richness and depth.
