Le Clos des Hospices, a vineyard that produces Grand Cru Les Clos-appellated wines, has been owned exclusively by the Moreau family since it was purchased by Christian’s grandfather in 1904. The parcel of land, named for the old Chablis hospital (Chablis hospice) faces south, and benefits from soil rich in kimmeridgien marl and dense white clay.

Fruit is hand-harvested in small trays to avoid crushing, sorted by hand, and pressed in a gentle pneumatic press. Following a slow, cool fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is aged in French oak barrels (largely second or third-use) for four months and in bottle for 12.

“The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Clos des Hospices Grand Cru is vivid, nuanced and wonderfully vibrant. It is also the wine that really captures the Moreau style at its best. Lemon confit, almond, chamomile and a touch of new oak open up in a supple, silky Clos loaded with personality. Radiant and yet reserved, with mid-weight structure, the Clos des Hospices is absolutely exquisite in its beauty. The Clos des Hospices emerges from a half hectare parcel on the lower slope of the Clos hillside and is done entirely in oak.”
