Vaudesir is one of seven Grand Crus, a large vineyard facing south and southwest. It is steep compared to the others, which offers respite from northerly winds, and the soils here are the lightest of the Grand Crus. This combination of factors produces a distinct macro-climate and the resulting wines are softer and more floral than other Grand Crus.
“The 2018 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru is powerful, dense and closed in on itself. There is plenty of intensity and depth in the glass, but those qualities need time to fully emerge. Dried pear, almond, dried flowers, sage, mint and yellow fruit give the 2018 its brooding feel. The Vaudésir is one of the most reticent wines in this range today, but there is plenty of material there.“
