Duckhorn Vineyards has produced Cabernet Sauvignon since 1978. This particular wine, which combines fruit from Duckhorn’s estate vineyards and top independent growers, embodies the complexity of Napa Valley.
A classic expression of Napa Valley Cabernet, this wine combines beautiful complexity with rich intensity. Layers of blackberry, huckleberry and black currants are supported by firm, dusty tannins that frame the fruit. On the palate, it is juicy and bright, with luxurious cassis and dark berry flavours supported by notes of fig, cardamom, clove and cracked black pepper that linger on the long, well-structured finish. You’ll be pleased to know that this wine is both approachable in its youth and worthy of cellaring.
“The 2016 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, which spent 16 months 100% French oak (50% new, 50% neutral). As it slowly unwinds in the glass aromas of red currents and bramble berries come together woven together with spices, underbrush and hints of cedar. On the palate this possesses a medium to full-bodied, with a nice mouthfeel, backed by slightly grainy tannins and a fresh, juicy core giving way to flavours of brambly fruit, spices, licorice and peppery character which persists through the finish. If approaching this in its youth, allow it some time to unwind as it evolves beautifully in the glass with extended air contact.”
