“Consistently one of Italy’s best Pinot Grigios. Lightly oaked, this wine has an enviable track record of excellence.”
Ian d’Agata on Lis Neris “Gris”, Decanter, May 2016
This is no ordinary Pinot Grigio. Fruit is sourced from the Gris vineyard (pronounced ‘Griss’) on the right bank of the Isonzo River, home to 30-year-old mature Pinot Grigio vines grown in the calcareous gravel of a wide alluvial shelf. The wine was fermented in large French oak casks and left to age in the same barrel for 12 months. Frequent stirring of the lees enhances mid-palate richness and adds notes of nuts and toasted biscuit, which in no way mask the freshness of the fruit. This is at once creamy, perfumed, bright and juicy, and hauntingly complex.
“Bright straw-yellow with golden tinges. Pear and apple notes on the nose and in the mouth are complicated by hints of wet stones, balsamic oils and fresh herbs. Closes clean fresh and long, with repeating mineral and apple nuances. 2020-2023.”
