Pio Cesare Barbaresco DOCG 2016 [6 x 750ml]

pio cesare barbaresco
Italy Piedmont
Type: Red Table Wine
Vintage: 2016
Bottles/Case: 6
Unit: 750ml bottle

The Nebbiolo grapes for this wine are sourced exclusively from the Cesare family’s own vineyards: the famous “Il Bricco” Estate and the great hill of San Stefanetto, both located in the village of Treiso. One third of the wine was aged in French oak botti and barriques (one third new) for 30 months. The remainder spent three years in large French oak casks.

A very classic Barbaresco, this is an elegant wine with ripe, spicy fruit and great depth and complexity. The gentle tannins show finesse, but make no mistake: this is a Barbaresco with structure and opulence. It shows very long ageing potential.

“Yum. Very fine tannins with a dusty texture. Plenty of subtle ripe strawberries, orange peel and cedar. It’s medium-bodied with a fresh, fruity finish. Tight and beautiful. Give it a year or two to open, but already a beauty.”

“Sourced from the firm’s vineyards in Treiso. The nose is pure charm and delightfully fragrant, with aromas of strawberries and violets. The attack is initially sweet and supple, but the tannins soon kick in. Right now this is somewhat austere and lacks a little flesh, but it does have lift and piquancy. It gained in richness and texture with aeration, and still needs some time to harmonise. Long. 2021-2032”
