In 2010, Ridgeview caught global attention when they received the trophy for “Worldwide Best Sparkling Wine” at the Decanter World Wine Awards, the first and only time this has been awarded to a producer outside Champagne. It was the official wine served for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Since then, Ridgeview’s sparkling wines have been the “go-to” sparkling wines served for heads of state visiting Great Britain.
The Cavendish is Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier dominant, supported by the freshness of Chardonnay. The fruit is hand-harvested, then gently pressed. The resulting wine comfortably stands beside those from the other side of the English Channel. It shows a rich golden colour with a fine, persistent mousse. Pinot dominance brings depth and character. The Chardonnay adds finesse, along with crisp freshness. This will age gracefully for three to four years as the Chardonnay matures.
“An alluring whiff of fern accompanies notions of ripe, red apple on the nose, while a touch of white pepper adds spice. The palate shows a very fine mousse that brings crisp red-apple freshness to the fore. This wine still seems young and taut, brimming with freshness in front of a rather reticent backdrop. Give this wine some bottle age and its apple splendour will develop. The finish is clean and lip-smacking.”

“A shockingly good sparkler from England, the 2014 Cavendish Brut from Ridgeview competes with numerous Champagnes with its flinty minerality and beautiful stone fruits and toasty notes. It’s vibrant on the palate, has a focused, chiseled texture balanced by good richness, and outstanding length. It’s pure class all the way and should keep for another 7-8 years, if not longer.”
