“Terra Costantino boasts the lucky advantage of having Consulting Enologist Luca D’Attoma on their winemaking team. This Tuscan perfectionist brings his maniacal attention to detail to a faraway volcano where nothing is predictable or easy. The estate farms a single, 7.5-hectare parcel located 450 to 550 meters above sea level. Half the vineyard is planted to Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, with three hectares of white grapes, Carricante and Catarratto.”
Monica Larner on Terra Costantino, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Aug 2017
Fruit for this tiny production wine comes from the Terra Costantino estate’s carefully tended Certified Organic vineyard on the southeast slope of Mount Etna. Grapes are harvested by hand, and wine ages for several months in stainless steel prior to bottling.
“The 2019 Terra Costantino de Aetna Rosato is intensely perfumed, wafting up from the glass with masses of ripe apple and young strawberry, as hints of kiwi, lime, and sweet spring florals develop. On the palate, depths of silky richness floods the senses in a ripe yet vibrant expression, with a buzz of zesty acids adding balance. It finishes long and full of energy, with lingering citrus tones sizzling away on the senses. There’s a bit of a vinous element here, but not heat; in fact, the Terra Costantino is wonderfully balanced. It’s a stimulating blend of Nerello Mascalese with 10% Nerello Cappuccio.”
