LCBO Vintages Classics Release
Johannes Hirsch is a (self-admittedly) headstrong winemaker with a deep attachment to his region and its soils. The combined traits play out in thoughtful ways: immense pride in working some of the Kamptal region’s best vineyard sites, and a willingness to take educated risks. This is a family estate that, for instance, made a notable departure ten years ago to work only with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling based on initimate familiarity with the land. A similar sense of conviction prompted the decision to bottle the entire portfolio under screwcap – a decision lauded today.
“Very subtle mirabelle and bergamot nose. Then, a remarkable, finely nuanced and lively palate for the warm vintage. The super minerally finish just doesn’t want to stop! From biodynamically grown grapes. Respekt certified.”

“The 2017 Kammern Ried Gaisberg 1ÖTW Grüner Veltliner is clear and flinty on the remarkably fresh, precise nose with its ripe and well-concentrated fruit aromas. Very elegant and fine on the palate, with remarkable vitality and finesse, this is a well structured, tensioned, stimulatingly salty Gaisberg from crystalline soils. Highly stimulating and with the vibration and finesse of Riesling.”
