Brigaldara

Veneto

Owner Stefano Cesari is the intelligent, intense, innovative producer of Brigaldara Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Superiore, and Amarone. Stefano once served as President of the Valpolicella Region Grower’s Association, where he dedicated his term to improving the quality of Valpolicella through low yields, improved viticultural practices, careful clone selection, and modern winemaking techniques. While he farms the traditional grapes of the Valpolicella Classico D.O.C., his emphasis is on the higher-quality Corvina over Rondinella and Molinara. He produces distinctive wines of very high quality from 15 hectares of estate vineyards near the village of San Floriano in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico zone.

In 2019, the winery obtained the Equalitas-Sustainable Wine certification for their wines and for the winery itself. This accolade covers all aspects of their wine production, from sustainable practices in the vineyard and cellar to good business practices for employees and suppliers. The Equalitas standard focuses on the social, environmental, and economic pillars of sustainability. Most recently, the winery received the 2022 Gambero Rosso Sustainable Viticulture Award as recognition for its 360-degree commitment to a sustainable product, from cultivation in the vineyard to its work in the cellar. Brigaldara has also reduced bottle weight to further enhance sustainability in every aspect of the company’s operation.

In Jancis Robinson’s most recent article, wine critic Walter Speller highlights Brigaldara’s noticeably fresher style of Amarone making it the star of the lineup. Brigaldara is not only a historic and award-winning Veneto producer, it is also ahead of the curve as the leading brand with a fresh and modern winemaking style.

“Success struck the Valpolicella area like lightning out of the clear blue sky, sometimes surprising the producers themselves, who were suddenly thrust into a new and complex world. Stefano Cesari has been able to handle the situation with calm and lucidity. In fact, his operation is one of the most interesting local estates today with excellent vineyards, a range of wines strongly rooted in tradition and, very importantly, fine quality that represents really good value for the money.”
Gambero Rosso, 2010

“Brigaldara can be counted on for exuberant, flashy wines. With time some of the lushness that is present upon release melts away and the wines acquire lovely complexity.”
– Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, February 2013
