Cantina De'Ricci

Tuscany

The De’Ricci family are big in the history of Montepulciano, dating back to 1150. In 1534, Cardinal Giovanni Ricci commissioned the construction of one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in the city, taking just under 30 years to be completed.

It was only in 2012 however, that the current owners, the Trabalzini family, decided to use their 30 hectares to produce wine under their own label. They boast what might be one of the most stunning wine cellars in the world, the Cantina Ricci, a huge underground Renaissance cathedral, with huge cross-vaulted arches, lying deep beneath the city of Montepulciano.
Lesser known than other famous Tuscan wines like Chianti and Brunello, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has made quite a come back in recent decades, thanks to increasing quality and a new generation of winemakers. Cantina De’Ricci recently acquired the Fontecornino estate and turned it into the main winery for the production of all their wines, combining the traditional wooden fermentation vats and modern stainless steel tanks.
