Located along the legendary Via Bolgherese, the wine road that winds through some of Tuscany’s most celebrated estates, Chiappini Winery is a true family-run gem in the heart of Bolgheri.
The story begins with Giovanni Chiappini, who arrived in Bolgheri as a child from Le Marche in the 1950s during Italy’s land reform period. Rooted in farming tradition, Giovanni purchased his first land in the 1970s and gradually shifted the estate’s focus toward viticulture, with wine becoming the family’s central passion by the late 1990s.
Today, Chiappini is known for producing expressive, organically farmed Bolgheri wines that combine the region’s power and polish with a deeply personal, artisan touch. The estate has been certified organic since 2010 and works approximately 11 hectares of vineyards, including parcels along the Via Bolgherese and in the Ferruggini area. Giovanni’s daughters, Martina and Lisa, now carry forward the family’s dedication to the land, guided by Giovanni’s philosophy: “The land is worth as much as he who tends it.”
Bolgheri itself is one of Tuscany’s most exciting wine regions, famous for its Mediterranean climate, coastal influence, and gravelly, mineral-rich soils that are perfectly suited to Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Chiappini’s wines capture that signature Bolgheri style: ripe dark fruit, polished tannins, savoury herbs, elegant structure, and a beautiful balance between richness and freshness.
