Family-run Blue Mountain has been an influential force in the evolution of the British Columbia wine industry since 1971. They began as suppliers of premium quality grapes to the region’s burgeoning wineries before moving to craft their own wines in 1991. The winery’s reputation is built on focused, limited production of finely crafted premium wines. There’s a subtlety and gentleness to Blue Mountain’s line-up that separates them from the pack.
For this Chardonnay, fruit is hand-harvested from sustainably-farmed vines, then whole-cluster pressed to ensure the purity of the juice. Grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and in new and old French oak barrels, then aged for nearly a year in neutral oak. The wine did not go through malolactic fermentation, which shows in a crisp undercurrent of green apple acidity.
Blue Mountain’s Chardonnay always displays great integration and nuance, offering layers of refined lemon, apple, and mineral in a fresh, long, crisp package. This wine displays complex flavours of orchard fruit, mineral, citrus, and toast with a fresh yet rich lemon character and complex anise notes on the finish. The structure of the wine will allow it to age beautifully for four to six years.
