Fruit is hand-picked from small vineyard plots rooted in clay-limestone soil. Simply de-stemmed and fermented by indigenous yeast, the wine goes through a long, slow fermentation. Ten months is spent unwinding in French oak vats and barrels to knit the complex layers together well.
A dark crimson blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre with a complex nose; aromas of blackberries, baking spice, toasty oak, and liquorice carry through to the palate. A dense wine with excellent length, the tannins are present and well-rounded.
“A great family estate in Gigondas, Domaine Brusset was created by Andre Brusset in 1947. Today, it covers over 70 hectares (in Gigondas, Cairanne, Rasteau and Côtes du Rhône) and is run by Daniel Brusset, with help from his grandson, Laurent. This estate uses a relatively high percentage of new oak, and they definitely show modern characters in their youth, yet they age beautifully and in this reviewer’s opinion, never lose their Southern Rhône charm or soul.”
Jeb Dunnuck on Domaine Brusset, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Dec 2016
“A dark, earthy and balsamic Southern Rhone red with full, creamy tannins and a hint of bitter-chocolate richness that warps itself neatly around the full body. Long, cocoa-powder and herb-liqueur finish. Not a jot too big or bold! Drink or hold.”
