The Montsant wine region almost completely surrounds the dramatic hills of Priorat, and saavy wine lovers know to look here for incredible wines, at excellent prices. Soils are diverse and include the famous ‘llicorella’ black slate that has helped to make Garnacha-based Spanish wines so popular.
Buil & Giné ’17-XI’ is crafted from grapevines ranging from 10-45 years old, grown on mineral-rich soil. The wine is a blend of 40% Garnacha, 40% Carignan and 20% ‘Ull de Llbre’ (the local name for Tempranillo). Each variety is vinified separately, expertly blended and aged 4-6 months in American oak.
’17-XI’ is smooth, with a complex fruit profile, generous tannins and a backbone of fresh acidity to keep everything in check. A versatile pairing wine, this will particularly shine with grilled food.
