Cain Vineyard and Winery

Cain Five is one of the most classically-built wines made in the Napa Valley. The emphasis each year is on structure and expressing the terroir of Spring Mountain, with an expansive bouquet.

Composed of the five classic varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot – Cain Five epitomizes the benefits of blending to achieve a complex wine. It is supple and rich of texture, combining a full, firm structure with a long and subtle finish.

Deep base notes of black currant and hot rocks emerge. Toasty bread and bay laurel follow. This is not your daddy’s fat, sweet, high-octane ‘Napa Cab’ – it gives you so much more: beguiling depth, grace and elegance. You’ll return to the glass again and again, each time to discover something new. This is only an infant and will provide enjoyment for 20 to 30 years.

“Exotic aromas of dried fruit, flowers, bark, sandalwood and dried flowers. Pine cone, too. Full-bodied with wonderful, refined tannins with riper tannins that show softness and pretty length. Harmonious. Just a hint of chocolate. A beautiful 1970s vibe to this. 57% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 14% cabernet franc, 9% malbec and 5% petit verdot. Drinkable now, but even better in a few years.” 97 points, James Suckling, February 2022
