At Bollinger, only exceptional harvests are made into vintage wines. La Grande Année Rosé is a blend of 63% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay, from 19 crus – mainly Aÿ and Verzenay for the Pinot Noir, Chouilly and Oiry for the Chardonnay. 5% red Côte aux Enfants wine. Fermented entirely in aged oak barrels. This is simultaneously precise, refined and complex, in terms of both its minerality and exceptional length.

On the nose is a real mosaic of fruit – aromas of raspberry, wild strawberries, cherries. Notes of peach and quince complete this fruity bouquet. The wine is characterized by its creamy effervescence, splendid volume in the mouth and long aromatic persistence. Its wonderful acidity and sea-air characteristics appear alongside flavours of orchard fruits and berries.

There is a lovely, subtle headiness about this – again with a spicy overtone and that maple syrup savouriness. The palate has body, has creaminess, has verve that seems to run like a current along a central vein of freshness.
