Chanson Pere et Fils

Chanson is one of the major owners of Clos des Mouches with a vineyard of 4.5 hectares. A sunny Terroir which benefits from an ideal location on the hill at the southern end of the vineyards of Beaune on a spur pointing toward Pommard. A plot of 2 hectares on the upper side of the hill is planted with Chardonnay on a limestone subsoil covered with sand.

Chanson’s “Clos des Mouches” is lush, powerful and complex, with lingering notes of honey, clove and Meyer lemon. It is our only Chanson on offer that is available immediately. With Burgundy in such limited supply, this special 1er Cru is not to be missed.

“The 2020 Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru is well-defined on the nose, quite malic with Granny Smith apples, dewy meadow and light limestone scents. The palate is well balanced with good concentration matched by a fine line of acidity. One of Chanson’s spiciest ‘20s, this vein of stem ginger prolongs the finish and delivers sufficient sapidity to tempt you back for another sip.” 91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous Media, December 2021

“Planted in 1980, 1987, and half a hectare in 2016. Mid lemon yellow. Perhaps the crispest nose of the whites to date. 13.7% alcohol. More in white fruit here with a citrus tint as well, a creamier flesh through the middle, a little bit of barrel toast and excellent length. A high-class Clos des Mouches with ageing potential and excellent persistence.” 92 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy, March 2022

“A much more floral-inflected nose displays additional notes of freshly cut apple, pear, citrus zest and a whiff of petrol. The delicious and plump yet well-defined medium-bodied flavors possess excellent volume and sappy dry extract before culminating in a markedly citrusy and bone-dry finale. This is really quite good and worth considering.” 91 points, Burghound, June 2022
