“Les Marconnets” are located in the Northern hint of the Appelation Beaune 1er Cru. The name of this vineyard referred to the german tribe “Marcomans”. Chanson owns 4 hectares, or 40% of the vineyard.
The hand-harvested fruit undergoes whole bunch fermentation for approximately two weeks. The wines are then aged in Chanson’s 15th century cellar for a period between 14 and 18 months with moderate use of new oak. Aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry mixed with spicy nuances. Complex, deep with a fleshy texture and ample tannins with a long finish.
“Lovely raspberry fruit and particularly nice depth of flavour, with accents of mineral, spice and smoke. The texture is supple and generous (as one might expect), and the finish lingers pleasantly. Marconnets is the most northerly of the Domaine Chanson vineyards, at the border with Savigny. They have 3.5ha in three blocks at mid-slope here in an old clos (with some of the walls still intact). The grapes were very ripe (some above 15%) and they were partially destemmed before a careful extraction and ageing in 30% new casks.”

“Chanson owns 4 ha of this 10 ha vineyard. Sweetly aromatic, floral and appealing, with a fleshy palate and vivid raspberry fruit. There’s good structure here, as well as a touch of liquorice.”
