Gevrey Chambertin is the most famous appellation of the “Côte de Nuits” and the climat “La Perrière” is located in the heart of the Premier Cru area. Whole bunch fermentation for approximately two weeks, the wines are then aged in Chanson’s 15th century cellar for a period between 14 and 18 months with moderate use of new oak.
Bright ruby colour. Delicate fragrances of violet mixed with black berry jam, black plum and spices. Mouth coating and dense texture. Complex, vibrant with well-structured tannins. Long finish with a tinge of spices.
“The black cherry and plum fruit is accented by sandalwood, vanilla and toast aromas and flavours in this silky red. Firms up nicely as this builds to a long, spice- and mineral-inflected aftertaste. Drink now through 2028.” 92 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 2020
“A more elegant nose of various red berries and a hint of underbrush is also markedly floral is trimmed in much more subtle oak treatment. The density of the middle weight flavours is only average but the mouth feel is sleek and there is good richness, indeed even a succulence to the dusty and naturally sweet finish. This nicely complex effort should be accessible on the earlier side if that’s your preference.” 90-92 points, Burghound, April 2019
