Domaine Chante-Perdrix was established in 1896. Today, it is run by Guy and Frédéric, the third and fourth generations of the Nicolet family. Their vines produce grapes for red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Vineyards are located in the southern quarter of the appellation on pebble-layered plateaus and terraces above the Rhone River. They produce bright, rich wines with remarkable structure and intense ruby structure from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Muscardin.

The Domaine’s fruit was harvested and carefully sorted by hand, then vinified in concrete for two weeks. The wine was transferred to oak vats, where it aged for up to two years, depending on lot. This Châteauneuf-du-Pape can be cellared for up to 20 years in exceptional vintages.

“Run by the Nicolet family, Domaine Chante-Perdrix was established in 1896, with 18ha of vineyard planted on galets roulés. After an entirely manual harvest there is strict sorting before fermentation in concrete tanks and up to two years in large oak vats. Their red Châteauneufs are 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre and 5% Muscardin. Matt Walls: A very harmonious and eminently classic wine. Plentiful but very fine tannin. Well shaped, good length. Great concentration but this is fresh and lively. Tanguy Martin: Meaty, savoury nose. Palate is dominated by the sweetness of the fruits and spices. Tannins firm, with a warm finish. David Round MW: Charming nose of raspberry and blueberry with some cinnamon. Explosive fruit on the palate, silky-smooth tannins, concentration and length. Really stylish, can’t fail to impress.”

“A classic wine from this estate, the ruby/purple-hued 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape offers lots of peppery red and black fruits as well as notes of iron, bouquet garni, licorice, and Asian spices. Wonderfully texture and medium-bodied on the palate, it has ripe tannins, a round, charming style, and outstanding length. It’s going to keep for 10-12 years. The blend is 65% Grenache, 15% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre, and 5% Muscardin, brought up in 20% new oak.”
