Château Langoa Barton is a Third Growth of Saint-Julien, with vineyards overlooking the Gironde River on classic quaternary gravel slopes. These well-drained soils encourage even ripening and concentration, while traditional vineyard work, carried out without chemical herbicides, reflects a hands-on approach rooted in respect for terroir.

The wine is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with all fruit harvested by hand and selected parcel by parcel. Fermentation in temperature-controlled wooden vats and gentle extraction preserve precision and balance, followed by aging in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new. Aromas of blackcurrant and dark cherry are framed by cedar, graphite, and subtle spice, leading to a refined palate with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, polished finish.

This Saint-Julien pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, or duck breast. It also works well with mushroom-based dishes and aged hard cheeses, making it a versatile and elegant choice at the table.

“Beautiful aromas of flowers and berries, intermingled in fresh and brambly mode with a cedary edge. This is very fresh. The tannins carve an exceptionally deep, long line through the dark berries and cassis and deliver a very powerful, unwavering finish. This is in great form. Very powerful and focused. Try from 2024.”

“Sappy and dense, with kirsch, plum reduction, mulled açai berry and warmed fig fruit showing impressive range, while licorice snap, ganache and roasted apple wood notes jostle behind them. Mouthwatering acidity should give this plenty of time to round into form. Best from 2025 through 2040. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 7,667 cases made.”

“Deep dark ruby in colour with an opaque core and discreet bright rim. On the nose the wine shows berry fruit underlaid with notes of honey and tobacco. Juicy cherry flavours, ripe with integrated tannins, a lively texture, lingering and long on the palate with good ageing potential.”
94 points, Peter Moser, Falstaff, May 2017
