Built by the Merman family at the beginning of the 19th century, Château Le Crock is surrounded by 32-hectares of vineyards, situated directly between Saint-Estephe superstars, Chateau Cos d’Estournel and Chateau Montrose. In 1903, with the acquisition by the Cuvelier family, Le Crock gained vineyard land and developed its second wine: Château La Croix. In 1932, Le Crock achieved Cru Bourgeois Supérieur status and then in 2020, with the exceptional 2018 vintage, it was promoted to Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel.
“A complex, vibrant Saint-Estèphe with pure fruit-characters on the nose and an intriguing note of crushed rock. Sweet and ripe on the palate, red-fruits to the fore, supported by an oak structure and fine-grained tannins. Has plenty of concentration and will age very well for 5-10 years. Generous, fleshy yet still retains freshness on the finish. Le Crock has been owned by the Cuvelier family since 1903.”

“Lots of blackcurrants and spices with some dried flowers follow through to a medium body with firm, silky tannins and a bitter-citrus and dark-walnut aftertaste to the fruit. Needs time to soften. Try after 2024.”

“Leads off with sweet bay leaf, tobacco and warm earth hints, which are quickly met by a core of steeped plum and black currant fruit. Shows subtle charcoal dusting and a note of cast iron that add fuel to the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2023 through 2035.”
