Continuum Estate

Continuum is yet another page in the Mondavi family legacy, a “5th beginning”. Founded in 2005, it is a partnership between members of the Robert, Marcia and Tim Mondavi families. It is a rededication and refinement of the family’s longstanding commitment to excellence in winemaking. Continuum’s goal is to produce a single wine that is recognized among the finest in the world.

Novicium is so-named for being the ongoing study of the winery’s Sage Mountain Vineyard. This “novitiate” offers a decidedly different glimpse, giving the winegrowers greater freedom to further explore the myriad of elements that give our Sage Mountain Vineyard distinction.

Novicium displays its predecessors’ signature approachability with a fresh and playful nose of red fruit and candied apple mixed with autumn leaves, bay laurel and the slightest hint of dewy spring peonies. A vibrant and direct wine, it has a plush entry and weighted mid palate of dark chocolate, black fruit, brown spice and tapenade. A vintage character both friendly and powerful, with Sage Mountain Vineyard’s iron core and a brightly expressed structure and finish.

“The brand new 2020 edition of Continuum ‘Novicium’ contains a significant percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon that is typically reserved for the winery’s flagship bottling and vividly displays why the fruit from their Pritchard Hill Estate is coveted by collectors world-wide. This rare treasure features a delicious level of dark, opulent fruit that we know collectors adore from Napa’s biggest blockbusters (e.g. Schrader). Aromas of Chambord and blueberry pie lead to notes of blackberry, cola, dark cherry, plum, pipe tobacco, vanilla cream and caramel. We recommend decanting prior to 2025 and predict this sensational gem will continue to thrill through 2030+.”

“Extremely perfumed red with redcurrant, flower and tile aromas. Beautiful clarity. Medium- to full-bodied with lovely creamy tannins that are curated and so attractive. Firm and racy with a freshness and brightness. A hint of attractive bitterness at the end. Pretty length. 76% cabernet sauvignon, 13% merlot, 6% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. Drinkable, but even better in a couple of years.”

“There is no 2020 Continuum, so the 2020 Novicium includes those parcels of fruit (when deemed worthy). Aromatically, it’s a solid effort, with attractive floral scents and cedary notes backed by black cherries, but the full-bodied palate comes across as slightly coarse and open-knit, with a touch of warmth on the finish.”
