Founded on a family estate in Rochefort-sur-Loire with roots stretching back to 1634, Domaine des Baumard became one of the Loire Valley’s benchmark producers under Jean Baumard, who revitalized the domaine in the 1950s. Today, Florent Baumard continues that legacy, and the estate remains especially respected for its masterful expressions of Chenin Blanc.
Clos de Saint-Yves comes from the famed Savennières appellation in the Loire Valley, one of France’s great terroirs for dry Chenin Blanc. This is a region known for producing intensely mineral, structured whites with remarkable longevity, and Baumard’s site is prized for delivering both power and elegance in equal measure.
Made from 100% Chenin Blanc, the 2020 Clos de Saint-Yves is crafted without oak ageing, allowing the purity of fruit and terroir to shine through. The wine is vibrant and precise, offering notes of lemon, grapefruit, quince, white flowers, and a distinctive mineral edge, all wrapped in a textured, energetic palate with a long, gently bitter finish that gives the wine superb freshness and lift.
A beautiful match for grilled fish, shellfish, roast chicken, or richer vegetable dishes, this is especially compelling alongside halibut with beurre blanc, seared scallops, or a creamy goat cheese tart.
“Another notable success is the 2020 Clos de Saint Yves, a medium to full-bodied, pure and rich wine redolent of fennel, anise, ripe orchard fruits, sage and confit citrus. Dense, textural, phenolic and elegantly flinty, it will offer a broad drinking window. Bottled with a screw-cap closure.”
