Since we introduced this product many years ago, we have been told several times that it has been confused with Blanc de Blancs Champagne. Produced from Chardonnay grown in the chalky soils of St. Véran in the Mâconnais, this clean, attractive, yeasty, Traditional Method Blanc de Blancs is offered at a remarkable price. The Mâconnais is a relatively warm sub-region or Burgundy, and fruit grown here is considerably riper than fruit from Champagne. What does this mean? You might note that this wine leans towards the richness of a Brut Champagne, with the aromatics and acidity of a Blanc de Blancs Champagne. Look for white flowers, citrus, and chalk. It is a truly compelling alternative to many of the sparkling wines in the market.

“The best sparkling wines are made according to the Champagne method, by adding yeast and sugar to still wine and allowing it to re-ferment in bottle under pressure to generate fine bubbles. That’s the process used in this affordable ‘crémant,’ the French term for quality bubblies that come from outside the Champagne region. It’s 100-per-cent chardonnay, also a key grape of Champagne. Bone-dry, it smells wonderfully of fresh-baked bread and displays a creamy texture that carries flavours suggestive of lemon curd on toasted baguette.” 91 points, Beppi Crosariol, The Globe Mail
