Domaine Luquet’s vineyards, which average 50 years of age, are situated in a natural amphitheatre that captures warmth and sunlight. At this age, the vines produce less fruit than in their youth, but that limited yield is supremely complex, concentrated, and balanced.
The “Le Pavillon” plot, located in Cortevaix, Clunisois, was first planted in 2009. It is on this very stony ground, a few steps from the “Les Mulots” vineyard, that pure Burgundian Chardonnay expresses itself again and again.
As all of Luquet’s wines, “Le Pavillon” is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, but this is followed by a short period of aging in Troncaire oak barrels, on the lees, with regular bâtonnage. The slight woody notes and the nose of ripe fruit complete a harmonious palate with good length for a Mâcon.
Clear gold in appearance, its nose brings springtime to mind, with fragrances of white flower, morning soil, and dried fruit. It is equally elegant on the palate: velvety fruit well-framed by freshness, and a soft and enveloping body. Ready to drink immediately, this wine will also age well for three years.
