Characterized by deep clay-rich soil interspersed with white chalk, the Clos du Bourg vineyard is a site where Chenin Blanc is able to express its wonderful aromatics while maintaining a racy acidity. This dynamic makes the wines entirely cellar-worthy. Like all of Huet’s vineyards, the land has been treated according to biodynamic principles for over 25 years.
The Chenin Blanc grapes that were grown in the Clos du Bourg vineyard are tended and hand-harvested with the utmost care to preserve the delicate aromatics that make Domaine Huet’s Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec so special.
“The 2020 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec is concentrated, deep and still somewhat untamed on the clear, fresh and lemon-fruity yet darker-toned nose compared to the Haut-Lieu. Round and refined yet still with a pretty firm tannin structure, this is a rich and powerful yet elegant and persistently salty Chenin with tension, grip and a sustainable, highly promising finish. The 2020 Clos du Bourg pairs juiciness with finesse and purity with complexity. Tasted as a tank sample shortly before bottling in April 2021.” 95 points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, May 2021
“The nose has aromatic vibrancy and offers a complex array of scents ranging from orchard fruits, spring flowers, jasmine, chamomile, verbena, and subtle notes of flint. On the palate, there is remarkable density but no heaviness whatsoever thanks to the crystalline and light-footed texture. The finish is long and incisive, driven by racy acidity. A superb wine. Drinking Window 2028 – 2050” 95 points, Yohan Castaing, Decanter, June 2021
“This alluring white imparts both elegance and drive, with ginger, quince and marzipan notes edged with heather, mineral and peach accents. Lovely, with good tension. Drink now through 2033.” 93 points, Wine Spectator, September 2021
