White Table Wine
All Huet vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 1990. Le Clos du Bourg is a six hectare “Clos”, an enclosed vineyard surrounded by stone walls. It is located on the first slopes above the church in Vouvray, where it captures warmth from the sun and is protected from wine. The rather thin soil, only about one metre deep, lies in direct contact with the non-active limestone subsoil. Le Clos du Bourg produces a powerful and well-structured wine.
Chenin Blanc grown in the Clos du Bourg vineyard is tended and hand-harvested with the utmost care to preserve the delicate aromatics that this wine so special. Characterized by deep clay-rich soil with veins of white chalk, Clos du Bourg is a site where Chenin Blanc expresses its wonderful aromatics while maintaining a racy acidity. This dynamic makes the wines entirely cellar-worthy. Like all of Huet’s vineyards, the land has been treated according to biodynamic principles for over 25 years.
“Domaine Huet’s “Clos du Bourg” Sec pours a bright and beautiful Chenin Blanc, with notes of fresh white floral, tart yellow apples, dry-roasted nuts, honeycomb, and crystallized ginger. ‘It might just be the greatest example of Chenin Blanc the world. It is fresh, crisp, and viscous on the palate. With laser-like precision, Huet has coerced noteworthy elegance and regal charm out of this finicky grape.” Meagan Drillinger on Domaine Huet’s “Clos du Bourg” Sec, Business Insider, June 2020
“The 2019 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec offers a deep, rich yet pure and refined, intensely aromatic, darker-toned nose with aromas of fully ripe stone and tropical fruit intertwined with earthy, chalky and yeasty notes that make up for further finesse and complexity. Full-bodied, round and fruity on the palate, this is a deep, intense, juicy, silky-textured yet tight, chalky, very complex, sustainably structured and persistently salty-mineral Chenin from old vines that give extra concentration as well as a spectacularly expressive character. This is a great, age-worthy Vouvray with fine tannins and lingering salty tension and finesse. What a finish! The 2019 needs a while to gain finesse and even more complexity. The wine served from the bottle that I tasted nine days before was incredibly amazing! The 2019 is a duty for all Chenin aficionados! Although only four wines were produced in 2019 (Le Mont is the only wine that was also produced as demi-sec, while the other two were only produced as sec) these are the finest, purest, most delicate yet also intense Vouvrays I have had from Huet in recent years. The 2019 Clos du Bourg is another stellar Chenin: ripe, deep, rich and complex yet also pure and vital, with great finesse and elegance and an impressive finish. The 2019 is probably the most amazing Clos de Bourg I have tasted as a young wine!” 97 points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, July 2020
“The 2019 Sec Clos du Bourg is a wine of stature and vertical build. There is real gravitas to the orchard fruit, spice and earthy flavours. Tasted blind, Clos du Bourg might be confused with a red wine such is its feeling of volume and structure. Far from an easygoing Vouvray, Clos du Bourg is a very serious wine. I loved it. In a word: marvellous. In three words: don’t miss it.” 95 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media, September 2020
