Faust

Coombsville is Napa Valley’s newest AVA with Faust’s Coombsville Estate being among the first vineyards planted in 1998.

Nestled into the rocky ruins of an ancient caldera, its bowl-shaped depression perfectly positions it to collect and hold cool air and fog that’s funneled up from the San Pablo Bay. Volcanic soils and marine breezes combine to offer polish and structure alongside consistent Napa ripeness.

‘The Pact’ is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the highest-elevation blocks of the Coombsville vineyard, and harvest lots are treated as separate, small-batch parcels in the cellar.

It opens with fresh aromas of black cherries, black currants and blue fruits with graphite, tobacco, star anise and cocoa powder notes rounding out the finish. ‘The Pact’ is defined by minerality and purity, and its fine-grained tannins and natural acidity ensures that it will last for decades.

“So many graphite and pencil shaving aromas here with blue fruits. Slate and tar undertones. Black and red currants. Some ash. Medium-bodied with open grained tannins. So much iron and rust with lead and mussel shell. Then turns to pine cone and cedar. Really complex and flavor intensive. Love to drink it now as a young wine. This evolves all the time. It will age beautifully. Better in three to five years. But I can’t wait.”
97 points, James Suckling, February 2024
