Weingut Fritz Haag is a historic estate at the heart of Germany’s Middle Mosel, renowned for its classic, slate-driven Rieslings. Founded by Wilhelm Haag and now led by his son Oliver, the estate upholds a legacy of precision and purity. The vineyards – steep, south-facing slopes of pure slate in Brauneberg – are among the Mosel’s finest, offering ideal conditions for Riesling to achieve balance, complexity, and minerality.
This Grosses Gewächs is crafted from the oldest, most prized parcels of the Juffer Sonnenuhr Grand Cru. Meticulously hand-harvested grapes are fermented in traditional 1,000L Fuder casks and stainless steel, followed by extended lees aging for added depth and refinement. The wine is powerful yet elegant, with layers of ripe orchard fruit, white blossom, and citrus peel. Notes of crushed herbs, wet stone, and delicate creaminess weave through its racy acidity and long, structured finish.
A wine of true pedigree, it pairs beautifully with refined dishes like roast chicken with tarragon, miso-glazed cod, or aged Comté. While expressive now, its full brilliance will unfold over time in the cellar.
“All the floral beauty and filigree of this great site are packed into a sleek silhouette. Wonderfully racy and vibrant, this youthful dry Mosel masterpiece barely weighs in as medium-bodied, but is incredibly expressive. Then comes the amazingly long, deep and delicate wet stone finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.”
