Burgundy-trained winemaker Davide Rosso leads one of Barolo’s most fascinating wineries. The Rosso family’s Serralunga d’Alba vineyard plots are farmed according to organic and biodynamic practices, with minimal intervention in the cellar. These estate Barbera vines were planted between 1959 and 2008.
In early October, the fruit is hand-harvested; wine is vinified slowly for two weeks in cement tanks with native yeasts, aged in French oak casks for several months, and bottled unfiltered.
On the nose, this wine displays clear aromas of red plums, raspberries, blueberry with delicate wisteria hints. On the palate, it is very easy to drink with vibrant acidity. Recommended pairings include poutine and risotto.
“Bright ruby with a lighter hue at the rim. Delicate aroma with notes of fresh cherries and blood oranges, followed by a touch of violets in the background. Clearly marked on the palate, juicy, precise fruit, lovely cherries, smoothly tapering off.”
90 points, Othamar Kiem, Simon Staffler, Falstaff
