Burgundy-trained winemaker Davide Rosso leads one of Barolo’s most fascinating wineries. The Rosso family’s Serralunga d’Alba vineyard plots are farmed according to organic and biodynamic practices, with minimal intervention in the cellar. These estate Barbera vines were planted between 1959 and 2008.

In early October, the fruit is hand-harvested; wine is vinified slowly for two weeks in cement tanks with native yeasts, aged in French oak casks for several months, and bottled unfiltered.

“If less enthusiastic and high spirited than 2020 there is still that pinosity element in the guise of nebbiolo from Davide Rosso’s Langhe. Just as classic yet in a different way, here warmer and fleshier, mature as well and simply ready to roll. Freshness is still one of its virtues but I for one would not dawdle – begin pouring and enjoy the immediate gratification of this red. Drink 2023-2025. Tasted July 2023.”
