Founded in Chavignol in 1900, Domaine Hubert Brochard has been rooted in Sancerre for more than a century, building its reputation on expressing the diversity of the appellation’s soils and villages through precise, terroir-driven wines. The estate remains closely tied to its family history, even as it entered a new chapter under the Bollinger family group in 2022.
The Fontaine-Audon vineyard is one of the domaine’s flagship château properties coming from the northern part of Sancerre, where Sauvignon Blanc is grown on flinty silex soils. This terroir gives the wine its signature tension, mineral cut, and vertical freshness, offering a more incisive and stony expression of Sancerre than softer, more fruit-forward styles.
The 2023 ‘Terre de Silex’ is made from 100% whole-bunch Sauvignon Blanc that is gravity pressed to preserve acidity. The wine is aged for six months in stainless steel vats, with a small amphora-aged component adding extra nuance. In the glass, expect subtle floral aromatics, citrus and stone fruit tones, and a precise, flinty palate with impressive length and a refined mineral finish.
Pair it with oysters, scallops, or elegant white fish preparations.
