This is no ordinary Pinot Grigio. Fruit is sourced from the Gris vineyard (pronounced ‘Griss’) on the right bank of the Isonzo River, home to 30-year-old mature Pinot Grigio vines grown in the calcareous gravel of a wide alluvial shelf.
The wine was fermented in large French oak casks and left to age in the same barrel for 12 months. Frequent stirring of the lees enhances mid-palate richness and adds notes of nuts and toasted biscuit, which in no way mask the freshness of the fruit.
It’s creamy, perfumed, bright and juicy, and hauntingly complex.
“This has aromas of grilled pineapple, apple pie, lemon curd, spices and hints of caramel popcorn. Full-bodied with a creamy, tropical palate and fresh acidity. Flavorful finish. Drink now.”
92 points, James Suckling, June 2022
