Cabernet & Cabernet Blends
Red Table Wine
Quintessa is always deep and thoughtfully made. The biodynamically-farmed estate vineyard was designed to take advantage of every feature and microclimate created by the property’s five hills, lake, riverbed, and surrounding forest. From the beginning, it has been farmed organically.
Most of the estate’s vines are now 28 years old and mature enough to handle challenging weather conditions when they arise. Every block – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carmenere – was harvested in sections so that fruit could be picked at the moment it showed its best character.
Intense aromas of cassis, black cherry, and raspberry intermingle with savoury notes of sage and thyme; Quintessa continues to unfold as notes of dark chocolate, graphite and fresh tobacco mingle with the fresh fruit. Precise and dense, the wine shows supple tannin that play with flavours of black cherry, dark chocolate, and crushed rocks. It has a perfect balance of fresh acidity followed by bright fruit and minerality at the finish that portends unparalleled aging potential.
Quintessa will cellar for decades and will reward your patience with many layers of delicious flavours that evolve with each sip and over the course of the evening.
“This is beautifully polished with firm, dusty tannins to the blue fruit, as well as chocolate and cedar character. Some much earthier character, too, from mushrooms to bark. Forest flowers. Perfumed. It’s full-bodied with round tannins and a soft, creamy finish. Some iron and iodine to this. So attractive at the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Better after 2023.” 99 points, James Suckling, January 2021
“I was blown away by the 2019 Red Blend from Quintessa, which is up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenère, this full-bodied beauty has a perfectly balanced, seamless, yet expansive and classic 2019 style as well as gorgeous aromatics of cassis, flowers, chalky minerality, and integrated oak. It’s hard to resist already, but I have no doubt this will evolve for 20 years if stored properly.” 97 points, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2022
“From the heart of Rutherford, made with both organic and Demeter-certified biodynamic grapes. Pure, vibrant aromas of dark berry fruit, liquorice, cassis, cardamom and rich earth. Penetrating to the core, with satiny robes of mixed blue and black fruits, crème de cassis, and a rich tapestry of very long, fine-grained tannins. A beautiful wine, drinking nicely now and should be enjoyed over the next few decades.” 96 points, Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter, June 2022
